New Meath Wetlands Identified

The wetland map in County Meath has been updated with the discovery of many new potential wetland sites. Previously 102 wetland sites had been reported from the county, including those identified in 2010 during the first Meath Wetland Survey undertaken by Meath County Council.

This present re-examination of aerial photography and sub-soil data has located a further 364 potential wetland sites in the county, bringing the total number of wetlands in Meath to 466.

Additional county wetland surveys will be required to address the information deficit on many of the recently identified potential wetlands.

The Wetland Map of Ireland now displays a total of 4,488 sites.
